Frequently asked questions about fence installation in Palo Alto
How much does fence installation cost per foot in Palo Alto?
Fence installation cost in Palo Alto and the surrounding area typically depends on the material and design you choose. Common pricing (installed, 2025 averages):
- Wood: ~$56/ft
- Vinyl: ~$52/ft
Final price varies with height, gates, terrain, and overall project scope. We’ll confirm the cost after a consultation to confirm your choice of material, style, height, and general scope.
How long does a fence installation typically take in Palo Alto?
Based on recent projects in Palo Alto, the average completion time from quote approval to project completion is about ~2.9 weeks.
In clear conditions (no dense vegetation, steep slopes, tight access, or rocky soil), our crews install about 60 linear feet per day. That means a 100-ft run is ~1–2 days and 200-ft is ~3–4 days. Posts are set in concrete and framing can often begin the same day. Complex sites, extra gates, or pool code can add time. Concrete reaches full cure in ~30 days; avoid pushing on the fence during that period.
What is the maximum fence height in Palo Alto?
In Palo Alto, residential fence height is set by zoning and yard location. Most lots allow:
- Side yards: up to ~6 ft
- Rear yards: up to 7 feet
- Front yards: typically lower for sightlines
Local bylaws may also specify setbacks (Fences should not be located closer than 5 feet from the sidewalk.). We’ll check local planning regulations for your address to make sure your request is compliant before we build.
Does Ergeon handle permits and inspections in Palo Alto?
Yes. Where a permit is required in Palo Alto, Ergeon files it and coordinates inspections for you. When we prepare your quote, our team checks Palo Alto's fence height limits, setback rules, and permit requirements so your project is compliant before installation begins. For the full details, see our guide to California fence laws.
What warranty does Ergeon provide in Palo Alto?
Every Ergeon fence in Palo Alto is backed by the same warranty: a one-year craftsmanship warranty, seven-year coverage on wood and steel posts, and a five-year materials warranty on chain-link fences. Applicable manufacturer warranties are passed through to you, up to 30 years on certain vinyl products. These terms are standard on every Ergeon project.
